How your bespoke jeans will age

One of the most appealing aspects of a high quality denim is the way that it ages over time. The more that you wear your jeans, the more they will shape themselves to your body, becoming more and more comfortable. Over time, with wear and washing, the denim will soften, losing its initial rawness. And of course, the cloth will fade in a unique pattern based on how it is worn and used by you, the owner of the jeans.

The pair pictured here were made by Atlantic Standard a year before these photos were taken. Since then they have been worn frequently and washed just once, and they are just beginning to pick up a wear pattern. The owner of these jeans favors his left knee when kneeling down on the floor, clearly visible in the much more visible fade of the left knee compared to the right. The whiskers around the crotch and the honeycomb behind the knee are just starting to appear and will become more pronounced over time, with more wear and more frequent washes.

This pair were made with the AS010 fabric, a light indigo denim inspired by post World War II era jeans and overalls, made in Japan by a more than 100 year old mill.

We will check in again next year to see how they are aging.
